Hazelwood Ski World

The slope at Hazelwood is genuinely steep when you pull up. It's an artificial ski run squeezed into the Nottinghamshire landscape, and yes, you can actually ski or snowboard here year-round on the dry slope - which sounds daft but absolutely works. The whole operation sits just outside Lincoln, and if you're camping at Hartsholme Country Park or one of the other sites nearby, it's a proper diversion for anyone who fancies a run without flying to the Alps.

The facility caters mainly to beginners and intermediates. You're not going to find double black diamonds, but the teaching is solid and the kit hire means you don't need to own your own stuff. Allow a good three hours if you're actually having a go - more if you want lessons. It's not free, admissions vary depending on what you're doing, so check their current rates before heading over.

Will your kids get antsy? Only if they're not into the sport. It's genuinely fun for ages seven upwards, less so for toddlers just watching from the cafe. The real value is as a break from typical caravan park activities - somewhere to actually do something a bit different between visits to Hartsholme or Four Seasons. The dry slope technology means weather doesn't shut them down, which is handy in the British climate. Worth a half-day trip if anyone in your party has even mild ski interest.
