The woodland around Hay Wood offers proper respite if you're staying at one of the caravan parks near Warwick. It's a straightforward forest walk - nothing dramatic, but useful if you need to stretch your legs without driving anywhere. The paths wind through mature trees, and it's the sort of place where you can actually hear yourself think, which is a rarity these days.

You're looking at an hour or two maximum here, depending on how thoroughly you want to explore. Families with young kids will find it manageable enough, though there's no playground or café to speak of - bring a packed lunch if you're settling in for the afternoon. The ground can be muddy after rain, so sensible footwear matters.

What makes it work is its closeness to Warwick itself. If you're camped at Mousley House Farm - only a mile or so away - this becomes an easy morning outing before heading into town proper to see the castle and riverside. It's not a destination in itself, but it's the sort of green space that makes a caravan holiday feel less like you're stuck in a campsite and more like you're actually in the countryside.

Free to access, and there's no entrance building to find. Just park nearby and walk in. Go midweek if you can - weekends bring the usual dog walkers and joggers, which rather defeats the point of coming here for peace and quiet.
