Harrington Hill

You won't find any dramatic peaks here - Harrington Hill is more of a gentle rise than anything that'll test your calves. At around 168 metres, it's the highest point in Lincolnshire, which tells you something about the landscape: this is the Wolds, where subtle slopes pass for mountains. The walk up is straightforward, the views across the rolling farmland and towards the coast are genuinely lovely on a clear day, and it takes about twenty minutes from the nearest parking spots. Worth doing if you're in the area, though don't expect dramatic vistas or dramatic anything really.

Historically minded visitors might appreciate that this stretch of the Wolds has Bronze Age barrows and medieval villages dotted through it. There's a proper sense of depth to the landscape once you know what you're looking at. Families with young kids will find it manageable - no scrambling, no exposure, no drama - which means it's either perfect for a gentle afternoon or a bit dull depending on what you're after. The real appeal is as part of a wider walk through the Wolds rather than a destination in itself.

Horncastle sits just a few miles south and makes a practical base. Both Lincolnshire Glamping and Oxcombe Campsite are well-positioned if you're planning to explore this corner of the Wolds properly. Combine it with walking routes through the Wolds themselves and a look at some of the quieter villages nearby, and you've got a decent day out. Go on a dry day - the paths get boggy.
