Harlow Hill

The walk up Harlow Hill from Harrogate takes about twenty minutes if you're reasonably fit, and the payoff is a proper panoramic view across the Stray and beyond. It's not a dramatic peak - you won't find yourself gasping at altitude - but from the top you get a real sense of why Harrogate sits where it does, with the Yorkshire hills rolling away to the north and west.

The hill itself is accessible year-round and free, which makes it a solid choice if you're camping at one of the local parks like Harrogate Caravan Park or Rudding Holiday Park and fancy stretching your legs without overthinking it. Families with kids will manage this easily enough; it's a good starter walk if you're not keen on anything too serious. The paths are well-trodden and the ascent is steady rather than punishing.

Go on a clear day if you can. Mist rolls in and the whole thing becomes rather pointless - I learned that one the hard way. Spring or early autumn work best; summer can draw crowds of locals out at weekends, and winter mud is real here.

It's not a destination in itself, mind you. Think of it as the punctuation mark on a Harrogate weekend rather than the main event. Combine it with a mooch around the town centre or a longer ramble on the Stray itself. If you're basing yourself at Knaresborough Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite further out, it's worth the short drive in.
