Hannah's Wood

A proper woodland walk just outside Chippenham, Hannah's Wood offers the kind of quiet forest escape that feels genuinely off the beaten track. The paths wind through beech and oak, and on a clear day the light filters through the canopy in that golden way that makes you forget about your phone entirely. It's not enormous - you can work through it in an hour or so - but that's rather the point. The undergrowth is thick and atmospheric, particularly in autumn when the leaf fall is heavy.

The nearby caravan sites like Roe Deer Fields and Plough Lane, just a few miles away, make it a natural addition to a park holiday in the area - you're close enough to pop over between breakfast and lunch.

Practically speaking, the wood is free to access and works best in dry weather when the paths aren't too muddy. There's no formal visitor centre or facilities, so come prepared. Spring is particularly good if you want to catch bluebells, though the woodland is rewarding year-round. The proximity to Chippenham means you can easily combine a morning walk here with exploring the market town's Georgian architecture or grabbing lunch before heading back to your campsite.
