Hangingstone Hill

Climbing this modest hill north of Northwich won't leave you breathless, but the views across Cheshire's patchwork fields are proper rewarding for the effort. At just over 200 metres, Hangingstone Hill is more of a gentle rise than a proper peak, making it ideal for families with younger children who fancy a taste of hill walking without the drama.

The route up is straightforward enough, following well-marked footpaths through mixed woodland and across open farmland. On a clear day, you can spot the distinctive outline of Delamere Forest stretching away to the west, while the Pennines form a distant backdrop to the east. It's the sort of walk that takes about an hour return, perfect for stretching the legs between longer drives.

Walkers staying at any of the nearby sites around Delamere Forest will find this makes a lovely morning excursion. The trailhead is easily reached from Delamere Forest Camping and Caravanning Club Site or Wild Shore Delamere, both within a couple of miles. Dog walkers particularly enjoy this spot - plenty of space for four-legged friends to roam safely.
