Hang Hill

The walk up Hang Hill from Milnthorpe is a proper little leg-stretcher, the sort of ascent that leaves you slightly breathless but grinning at the top. It's not a massive peak - we're talking around 500 metres - but the climb has enough punch to feel properly earned. Views across the Kent estuary and toward the Lake District fells open up as you gain height, and on a clear day you can pick out Morecambe Bay spreading out to the west.

This is squarely hillwalker territory rather than a stroll. You'll need decent boots and an hour or so set aside, longer if you're not used to the gradient. It works brilliantly as a morning excursion if you're based at one of the nearby holiday parks - Fell End is barely a mile away - and pairs nicely with a proper walk around the Lakeland fringes. Families with older kids who don't mind a steep push will get something from it; younger ones might find it a bit much.

There's no visitor infrastructure to speak of - no café, no facilities, just the fell and the views. That's rather the point. Access is straightforward from the Milnthorpe side, and there's roadside parking if you know where to look. The best light is morning, before the ridge gets crowded on weekends. It's not dramatic enough to warrant a special trip on its own, but absolutely worth tacking on if you're already exploring this corner of Cumbria.
