About Hand Lake
This isn't a destination for fell-baggers after adrenaline. It's more the sort of place where you'd arrive at the summit, spend ten minutes taking in the panorama, then crack on with the circuit. The actual fell top is moorland and bracken, unremarkable until you stop and look around. Families will find it manageable as a half-day walk from Kendal - the gradients are forgiving and there's no exposure.
Timing matters. Morning light hits the eastern fells properly, and you'll want to avoid misty afternoons when the views dissolve. Allow two to three hours for a round walk depending on your pace and how long you linger.
If you're based at Two Acre Glamping Pods, Hand Lake makes a sensible warm-up walk before attempting anything steeper in the Lakes proper. It's close enough for a morning jaunt without burning energy you might need elsewhere. Worth doing, but don't rearrange your itinerary specially. The Kent Valley walks round Kendal itself offer more character.
