Hambury Tout

Standing 175 metres above the waves, this limestone headland offers one of the finest viewpoints along Dorset's Jurassic Coast. From the grassy summit, you'll take in sweeping views across Worbarrow Bay to the east and the famous chalk cliffs stretching towards Durdle Door to the west.

The walk up from West Lulworth takes about 45 minutes each way, following well-marked coastal paths that can get muddy after rain. It's a proper climb that'll get your heart pumping, but nothing too demanding for anyone with reasonable fitness. Families with older children will manage it fine, though toddlers might struggle with the steep sections.

What makes Hambury Tout special is the sense of isolation once you reach the top. While nearby Durdle Door heaves with tourists, this spot remains relatively quiet even in summer. The panoramic views are worth every step - on clear days you can spot Portland Bill lighthouse in the distance.

Allowance of two to three hours for the round trip, including time to catch your breath and take photos. Early morning or late afternoon visits offer the best light for photography, plus you'll avoid the worst of the crowds heading to more famous spots.
