Haggis Knowe

The walk up Haggis Knowe takes about forty minutes from Kinghorn, and it's one of those Scottish hills that doesn't look like much from the car park but absolutely delivers once you're up top. The views across the Firth of Forth are genuinely stunning - you can see right across to the Highlands on a clear day, and Edinburgh sprawls out to the west. The peak itself is modest, nothing dramatic, but that's rather the point. It's the kind of walk that rewards you without requiring proper mountain kit or a dawn start.

Families with older kids will find this manageable, though younger ones might struggle with the boggy patches near the top - proper waterproofs essential. Walkers doing a week-long tour of East Lothian will absolutely clock this one in, and if you're after straightforward coastal views without the tourist crowds of somewhere like North Berwick Law, you've found your spot. The ground gets a bit squelchy, especially after rain, so decent boots matter more than fitness.

Being free and accessible right from the Kinghorn area makes it ideal if you're basing yourself at somewhere like Drummohr Camping & Glamping Site just down the road. You could knock this out mid-morning, grab lunch in town, and still have the afternoon for beaches or the coastal paths. It's not a all-day affair - two hours there and back is realistic - but it's exactly the sort of honest Scottish hill walk that reminds you why people bother.
