Grovehouse Coppice

You'll find Grovehouse Coppice on the edge of Newent, a proper working woodland rather than a manicured country estate. It's the sort of place where you can actually walk without hitting a gift shop or a rope cordon, which is refreshing if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks like Pelerine or Cwtch Cabins.

The woodland is mixed deciduous - oak, beech, hazel - with decent footpaths threading through. Come spring the bluebells are excellent, though honestly it's fine any season if you just want to shake off the campsite for a couple of hours. The tree canopy is thick enough that it works well when the weather turns drizzly, which in Gloucestershire it often does.

This isn't a destination attraction where you'll spend half a day. An hour's walk gets you a proper feel for it, maybe ninety minutes if you're dawdling. It suits families with kids old enough to manage uneven ground without complaining, and walkers after a quick leg-stretcher between longer routes. History types won't find much - no ancient monuments, no manor house views - just trees doing what trees do.

Free access as far as I can tell, no visitor centre or facilities beyond the woodland itself. Go in the morning if you can; afternoons get busy with the local dog-walking crowd. It's a solid addition to a Newent-based holiday if you're after greenspace, but don't expect anything fancy. Just good, honest forest.
