Gringley Gorse

Gringley Gorse is a modest woodland patch on the Nottinghamshire-Lincolnshire border, just south of Doncaster. It's the sort of place locals know about and visitors mostly pass by, which is probably why it remains fairly quiet.

You get a proper forest walk here - nothing dramatic, but decent enough for blowing off steam with the kids or a quick leg-stretch if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks. The gorse gives it character, especially in spring when it's flowering yellow, and the mix of heathland and trees creates a bit of variety. Don't expect dramatic views or ancient monuments. This is working woodland, managed by the local community, and it feels genuine rather than manicured.

It works best for families with young children or anyone wanting a low-key ramble without the crowds you'd get at bigger country estates. Allow an hour to an hour and a half depending on how thoroughly you explore. There's no café or facilities that I'm aware of, so bring what you need.

Since you're likely staying at Waterfront Country Park, Misterton, or one of the other holiday parks within a few miles, Gringley Gorse makes a decent half-day outing. It's close enough to not feel like a trek but different enough from the caravan park routine to feel like you've gone somewhere. Worth adding to your list if you're in the area, though don't rearrange your whole trip around it.
