Green Law

Green Law is a proper forest walk in the Scottish Highlands, just a short drive from Arbroath. It's the kind of place where you can actually breathe - dense woodland, plenty of shade, and enough rough paths to keep things interesting without needing technical gear.

What you're doing here is walking. There's no visitor centre, no gift shop, no faffing about. You arrive, you lace up, you go. The forest itself does the talking - native trees, decent wildlife spotting opportunities if you're patient, and the sort of quietness that makes you remember why you left the city.

This works brilliantly for families with kids old enough to handle a proper woodland trail without constant whinging. Walkers and nature types will get a genuine kick from it. If you're after manicured gardens and interpretive signage, move on.

Duration-wise, plan on two to three hours depending on how far you venture in. Spring and early autumn are your best bets - fewer midges, better light filtering through the canopy. Summer can get sticky and buggy.

It pairs well with a stay at The Grange Glamping, just four miles away, which gives you proper creature comforts alongside proper countryside. Combine Green Law with the Arbroath coast a few miles south and you've got a solid weekend sorted. Not Instagram-famous, which is exactly why it's worth your time.
