Green Hill

The walk up Green Hill rewards you properly - it's a gentle climb from the Sevenoaks side that takes maybe forty minutes at a steady pace, and the view across the Weald at the top is genuinely worth the leg work. On a clear day you can see for miles, rolling farmland and patchwork fields stretching out beneath you. The summit itself isn't dramatic or windswept; it's more understated than that, which somehow makes it better.

Walkers will get the most from this. It's not a scramble or a technical route, just a proper countryside walk that builds nicely and gives you something to show for the effort. Families with decent-walking kids will manage it without complaint, though expect a "how much longer" or two from under-eights.

Green Hill works brilliantly as part of a wider park break. You could easily combine it with a stay at Thriftwood Country Park, just four miles away, which gives you a base to explore this part of Kent properly. The walk itself is free and you can do it whenever you fancy - early morning is my pick, when the fields are quiet and you've got the place to yourself.

Don't expect facilities at the top. No cafe, no visitor centre, just grass and space and a decent view. That's precisely the appeal, mind you. It's the sort of hill that reminds you why a walk beats a gym session.
