Grecian temple

You won't find many Grecian temples in the Kent countryside, which is precisely why this one near Tunbridge Wells catches you off guard. It's a genuine classical structure - all columns and pediment - sitting incongruously among the rolling South East landscape. It's mainly a photo stop and a decent walk-around for anyone with a soft spot for odd historical follies. History buffs will spend a good half-hour poking about, reading up on why some 18th or 19th-century landowner decided to build a Greek temple on their estate. Children will enjoy it for ten minutes, then ask if there's anything else nearby. The structure itself is the draw - there's no interpretation centre or café, so manage expectations accordingly.

Combine it with a proper walk across the local parkland and you've got yourself half a decent day out. The real appeal is the oddity of it, honestly.
