About Great Paddy Crag
This is walker territory, not a stroll. You're looking at a good two to three hours round trip depending on fitness and how long you dawdle at the top - and you will want to dawdle. The fell works brilliantly as a half-day outing, especially if you're based at Fisherground Campsite just down the road near Gosforth. Pack a packed lunch, bring proper boots. It can be boggy lower down after rain, and the weather shifts quickly up here.
Families with confident younger walkers will manage it fine. Small children will find it tedious - there's not much to hold their attention between the start and the summit. Keen hillwalkers should definitely add it to their list though. It's the sort of fell that doesn't make the postcards but reminds you why you came to the Lake District in the first place. Free to visit, naturally. The real cost is the effort to get up there.
