Great Hollands Recreation Ground

Great Hollands Recreation Ground is a proper local nature reserve on the edge of Wokingham, just a short drive from Bracknell. It's the sort of place where you'll find woodland paths threading through mixed habitat, open grassland, and if you're lucky, a decent range of birds and small mammals. Nothing flashy, but solid walking territory.

The reserve works best for families after school or at weekends - kids can burn energy on the paths without feeling like they're being dragged round something worthy. Birdwatchers and plant-spotters will get genuine use from it, especially during spring migration. Allow anything from forty minutes to two hours depending on how thoroughly you want to explore. The real value here is how it slots into a caravan holiday around Bracknell. Warfield Park sits just 3.3 miles away and Scotlands House Campsite even closer at 3.5 miles - both solid bases with good ratings. If you're camping nearby and the weather turns decent, this gets you out of the caravan without committing to a major expedition. It's also genuinely useful on those in-between days when you want a gentle woodland wander rather than tackling some big heritage site.

Timing matters though. Summer weekends can get busy with dog walkers. Early mornings or weekday visits feel far less crowded. Don't expect visitor facilities - bring what you need with you.
