Grant's Clock

The clock tower stands right on the seafront at Whitley Bay, impossible to miss as you're wandering along the promenade. Built in 1927, it's one of those wonderfully solid Victorian-era structures that actually looks like something was built to last, which is more than you can say for most things these days.

It's a straightforward landmark rather than a destination that'll eat up your afternoon - you pop by, take a photo, maybe grab a coffee from one of the nearby cafes, and move on. The tower itself has decent views across the bay if you're in a sentimental mood, and it makes for a proper focal point if you're planning a seaside stroll. Kids won't spend long here unless they're mad about architecture, but as part of a broader wander along Whitley Bay's seafront it works well enough.

Being free to view and right on the promenade, it slots neatly into any coastal walk. The nearby Parkdean Resorts Whitley Bay Holiday Park is barely a mile and a half away, making it an easy morning or evening leg-stretch if you're based there. Old Hartley Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite sits just two miles further down, so it's accessible from either.

The seafront itself is the real draw - the clock's more of an ornamental anchor point than a must-see attraction. Worth knowing about if you're in the area, but don't plan your trip around it.
