A modest stretch of grassland just outside Redhill that punches above its weight if you know what to look for. Grange Meadow Playing Field is one of those places that rewards a closer inspection - the kind of spot where you'll spot more wildlife than you'd expect from what looks like a standard playing field at first glance.

The meadow itself is genuinely biodiverse. Wildflowers dot the grass depending on the season, and if you're into birds and insects, you'll find plenty to occupy you for an hour or so. It's the sort of place where a child could spend an afternoon turning over logs and spotting beetles while adults take a proper walk around the perimeter. Don't come expecting dramatic scenery or formal gardens - this is raw, working nature reserve territory.

Walkers will find it most rewarding in late spring and summer when the flowers are out and the insect life is at its peak. The field itself is free to access, though opening hours aren't clearly posted anywhere - it's more of a come-as-you-are situation. Allow 45 minutes to an hour if you're actually looking at things rather than just marching through.

It sits well within a broader exploration of the area around Redhill. If you're camping at Long Acres or the glamping sites nearby, this makes an easy morning or late afternoon detour without burning petrol driving somewhere spectacular. Real naturalists will get something out of it. Everyone else might find it a bit underwhelming.
