Graig Fawr

The walk up Graig Fawr isn't long, but it's steep enough to make your legs remember it the next morning. This craggy peak sits above Rhyl, offering proper views across the North Wales coast when the weather plays ball. On a clear day you're looking out toward the Irish Sea, with the Great Orme visible off to the west near Llandudno.

It's a walker's spot, really. Not a tourist carousel with facilities or interpretation boards - just a decent scramble that takes about an hour round trip from the car park. The path gets muddy after rain, and the final push up the rocks needs a bit of scrambling, so it's not ideal for very young children or anyone unsteady on their feet. Teenagers and adults will find it satisfying though. The view from the top justifies the effort, especially if you time it for late afternoon light.

Free to visit, naturally. There's no visitor centre or café, so bring water and snacks. The nearest facilities are back in Rhyl itself. If you're staying at one of the holiday parks in the area - Golden Sands or Parkdean Resorts Ty Mawr are both within a few miles - this makes a solid half-day outing to break up the park routine. It's worth fitting in if you like a proper walk and don't mind a bit of exposure. The peak itself is nothing spectacular, but the effort-to-reward ratio is decent.
