Graig-bach

The walk up Graig-bach is short, sharp, and properly rewarding if you're staying near Rhyl and fancy something that won't eat your entire afternoon. It's a modest peak by Welsh standards - you can be up and back down in under two hours if you've got reasonable fitness - but the views across Conwy and towards the coast make the climb worthwhile.

What you get is a straightforward hill walk with decent vistas at the top. On a clear day you can see across the estuary towards the Dee, and the surrounding moorland spreads out nicely. It's the kind of walk that feels properly like Wales without requiring mountaineering skills or specialist gear. Families with older kids will manage it fine; younger ones might find the steep bits tedious coming down.

The main thing to know is there's virtually nothing at the summit - no café, no shelter, no facilities. Bring water and maybe a packed lunch if you want to linger. Weather changes fast up here, so check the forecast before you set out.

If you're based at Golden Sands or one of the other holiday parks within five miles of Rhyl, Graig-bach slots in nicely as a half-day outing. It's close enough that you're not spending the afternoon driving, but far enough away that you'll feel like you've genuinely left the holiday park behind. Worth doing if you're in the area; don't go out of your way for it.
