Goles Forest

You're looking at native trees, open glades, and paths that vary from straightforward woodland strolls to steeper sections if you fancy a bit of a climb. The light filtering through the canopy changes everything depending on season and time of day; spring's brilliant for bluebells and birdsong, autumn turns the whole place amber and gold. There's no car park nonsense or visitor centre drama that I could find - just access to proper countryside.

Families with older kids and walkers will get the most from this. Little ones might flag on longer routes, but families keen on nature spotting and a proper outdoor stretch will find it worthwhile. Historians won't find much to chew on here - this is about the trees and the air, not heritage plaques.

It's a natural fit with a stay at Sperrinview Glamping, only five miles away near Cookstown. That gives you a base that's actually comfortable without losing the feel of being out in Ulster's countryside. Allow two to three hours for a good wander, more if you're the type who stops to identify every bird call. No entry fees that I'm aware of, which is a proper bonus.
