Goldwell Spinney

A proper woodland walk just outside Kidlington, Goldwell Spinney is the sort of place locals know about but tourists often miss. You get decent tree cover, some manageable paths, and enough space to actually breathe without feeling like you're queuing for a photo opportunity.

It's woodland, so what you're doing here is walking. The spinney itself is small enough that you won't be here for hours - reckon on 45 minutes to an hour if you're meandering rather than striding through. The paths are straightforward, making it decent for families with younger kids, though there's nothing particularly exciting to hold their attention if they're after climbing frames and ice cream vans.

This works well as a pocket of green during a caravan park holiday. Weston Caravan and Campsite is just over three miles away, and Greenhill Leisure Park sits at 3.5 miles, so both are close enough for a morning walk without needing to load everyone back into the car straightaway. It's the sort of place you'd slot in between pitching up and heading to wherever you're having lunch.

The spinney's free and unrestricted as far as I can tell, which means you can turn up whenever suits you. Spring is lovely if the bluebells are showing; autumn's worth a trip too if you fancy kicking through leaf litter. It won't blow your mind, but it's a solid walk that doesn't demand much planning.
