Glan Morfa Community Woodland / The Cob

The Cob at Glan Morfa is essentially a Victorian-era embankment that cuts across the Conwy estuary, separating the salt marsh from the sea. It's not dramatic - no towering cliffs or crashing waves - but it's the sort of place that quietly reveals itself as you walk it.

You get views across the water toward Conwy Castle in one direction and the Conwy Mountains beyond. The walk itself is straightforward and flat, which makes it accessible for families with younger kids or anyone who'd rather not tackle steep terrain. Allow about an hour for a decent wander, longer if you're into bird spotting - the estuary attracts waders and wildfowl, particularly in winter.

Historically minded visitors will appreciate that this is a proper piece of Victorian engineering, built to manage flooding and reclaim land. It's the sort of infrastructure nobody thinks about until they're standing on it, wondering how it all works.

The nearest town is Rhyl, about five miles away, though you're really in the Conwy area proper. If you're staying at Golden Sands or Parkdean Resorts Ty Mawr - both within striking distance - this makes a natural half-morning excursion before heading elsewhere. It's not a destination in itself, but paired with exploring Conwy town or the castle, it gives you a sense of the landscape beyond the postcard bits.
