Glade How

Getting to the top of Glade How takes about an hour from Holmrook, and it's a proper straightforward fell walk that won't leave you knackered. The peak itself sits at 311 metres - nothing dramatic in Cumbrian terms, but the views down towards the Solway Firth and across to the Lake District proper are genuinely worth the effort. On a clear day you're looking at a wide, open vista that stretches further than you'd expect from such a modest height.

The walk suits families who've done a few hills before and serious walkers after a quick morning outing. It's not a slog, but it's not a stroll either. Ground can be boggy in places, especially after rain, so decent boots make sense. Allow a couple of hours there and back if you're not pushing hard.

Fisherground Campsite sits just four miles away near the coast, making Glade How an ideal addition to a Lake District holiday base. You can knock it out before breakfast and still have the afternoon free for the bigger fells or a coastal walk around Drigg. The fell itself is quiet - you won't find queues or crowds, which is part of its charm. It's the sort of peak that locals know and walkers often skip, hunting instead for the famous names further east.
