Gib Bheinn

Getting to the top of Gib Bheinn rewards you with views across the Firth of Lorn and back towards Ben Nevis on a clear day. It's not a particularly high peak at 370 metres, but what it lacks in altitude it makes up for in accessibility and the sheer quality of the vistas once you're up there.

The walk itself takes about two hours return from the car park, with a steady climb through moorland and rough grass. You won't find a marked trail for much of it, which keeps things straightforward enough but means you need basic map-reading skills or a reliable GPS app. The terrain is fairly straightforward underfoot - no scrambling required, unlike some of its more dramatic neighbours.

Walkers and hillwalkers will find this one of the better afternoons on Mull. Fair weather is crucial here; cloud sits low and thick on miserable days, completely flattening the appeal. Families with decent hillwalking experience can manage it, though restless younger kids might find the moorland bit tedious before the views kick in.

From Port nan Gael Campsite just a few miles away, Gib Bheinn fits perfectly into a broader Mull walking itinerary. You could easily combine it with other local peaks or use it as a warm-up for the island's more serious hills. The campsite's central Mull location makes it ideal for moving between walks without breaking camp.

Free to climb, naturally. Best tackled in decent weather between May and September when the moorland isn't waterlogged underfoot.
