About Ben More
The walk itself takes most people between four and five hours there and back, depending on fitness and how many times you stop to catch your breath. The path starts near Loch na Keal on the eastern side and winds upward through moorland before the terrain gets properly steep. On a clear day - which isn't guaranteed on Mull - the views reach across to Ben Nevis, the Small Isles, and sometimes even the Scottish mainland.
This is for hill walkers with some experience, not casual strollers. Families with older teenagers might manage it, but younger kids will struggle with the distance and gradient. The ground underfoot is often boggy lower down, becoming rocky higher up, so decent boots are non-negotiable.
Ben More sits perfectly within an Isle of Mull holiday if you're staying at Island Pods or Port nan Gael Campsite - both excellent bases for a few days exploring the island. The walk is free, obviously, and best tackled in summer months when daylight holds longer and the weather's marginally less punishing. Plan for a full day and don't underestimate it.
