Gerrard's Hill

Standing 180 metres above sea level, this grassy hilltop offers one of the finest panoramic views along the Dorset coast. You'll see Bridport stretched out below, the golden sweep of West Bay beach, and on clear days the coastline stretching towards Lyme Regis. The walk up is decent but not gruelling - perhaps 20 minutes from the nearest parking spot.

Families with older children will love it, though toddlers might find the climb a bit much. Walkers often use it as part of longer routes along the South West Coast Path. The wind can be fierce up here, so bring layers even on warm days.

There's no visitor centre or facilities - just you, the view, and hopefully decent weather. Early morning visits reward you with softer light and fewer people, while sunset can be spectacular if you time it right. Allow an hour including the walk up and time to properly appreciate the vista.

From nearby holiday parks like Hidden Valley Dorset or The Dorset Hideaway, it's an easy drive to the base of the hill. Makes for a lovely morning excursion before heading to West Bay for fish and chips, or combine it with a walk along the coast path. The view alone justifies the climb, though don't expect much else once you're up there.
