Gerrans, Gerrans: St Gerrans

The church sits in the village of Gerrans, a few miles south of Truro, quietly going about its business as it has for centuries. St Gerrans is a proper medieval affair - the kind of Cornish parish church that rewards a quick detour if you're exploring the area rather than demands a special trip. The building dates back to the 15th century, which means the stonework has weathered everything the Atlantic can throw at it, and it shows in the best possible way.

Inside, there's solid church architecture and the usual accumulation of brass plaques and local history that these places accrue. It's free to visit and takes about twenty minutes to look around properly, less if you're just passing through. The churchyard is pleasant enough for a wander, with those moss-covered gravestones that make for decent photos if you're into that sort of thing.

Historically minded visitors will get more from it than families with young kids - there's not much here to hold their attention beyond "look at the old stones". Walkers using the area would find it worth a quick stop, particularly if you're heading between Trethem Mill Touring Park and Veryan Camping and Caravanning Club Site. Both are within striking distance and make good bases for exploring the Roseland Peninsula.

Truth is, St Gerrans works best as part of a broader ramble around the village and coast rather than as a standalone destination. It's solid, worth fifteen minutes of your time, and genuinely interesting if medieval ecclesiastical architecture is your thing. Just don't expect fireworks.
