Garrison Point

The walk out to Garrison Point from Sheerness takes you along the seafront with views across the Thames estuary - it's flat, straightforward, and takes maybe 20 minutes depending on your pace. What you're heading for is a Victorian fort, built in the 1860s as part of Britain's coastal defences. It's not a grand castle or anything dramatic, just a solid brick structure sitting on the water's edge, but there's something genuinely interesting about seeing it up close.

Once you're there, you can walk right up to it. The fortification itself is well-preserved enough that you can read the history in the stonework - loopholes for guns, that sort of thing. It's the kind of spot where history feels properly tangible rather than just words in a guidebook. Photography types will find decent angles, especially in late afternoon light.

This isn't a destination that'll eat up hours. You'll spend 45 minutes to an hour here including the walk and a bit of poking about. It works best alongside a broader Sheerness seafront visit rather than as a standalone trip. If you're staying at Sheerness Holiday Park or one of the other Kent Coast parks in the area, it's an easy leg-stretch that breaks up the day. History buffs will appreciate the Victorian engineering. Families with younger kids might find it a bit static - they'll want more interactive stuff. The waterfront walk itself is the real draw; the fort is just a proper full stop at the end of it.
