Garnedd-goch

You'll spot Garnedd-goch rising from the Gwynedd landscape not far from Caernarfon, and honestly, it's a proper straightforward hill walk rather than some jaw-dropping peak bagging experience. The summit sits at a decent height but doesn't demand technical skill or specialist kit - mostly it's a case of solid boots and enough breath to manage the climb.

The view from the top sweeps across the surrounding moorland and valleys. On a clear day you can make out the Snowdonia range in the distance, which adds gravitas to what might otherwise feel like a modest outing. The walk itself winds through open terrain with minimal tree cover, so you get a genuine sense of exposure and space without the scrambling required on some of the higher peaks nearby.

Walkers will get the most from this one. It's the sort of hill that works well as a warm-up if you're tackling the bigger stuff in the area, or simply as a standalone circuit if you've got a couple of hours to spare. Families with reasonably fit children won't struggle with it either, though younger legs might find it tedious rather than thrilling.

If you're camped at any of the nearby sites - Talymignedd, Ty'n Llan, or Beddgelert are all within striking distance - it makes a sensible day's objective. Access is free and straightforward, though parking can be tight depending on which approach you take. Aim for an early start, especially weekends, and factor in three to four hours return. Summer's obviously better for weather, but the exposed ridge can get surprisingly windy even then.
