It works best if you're already in Beverley for the day - the Minster alone is worth the trip, and the town's market square has proper pubs and decent cafes. Garfish slots in nicely as part of a cultural afternoon rather than as a destination in itself. Realistically, allow 45 minutes to an hour unless something grabs you and you want to linger.

If you're camping at Manor Farm nearby, it's close enough for an easy afternoon jaunt into town. Families with restless kids might find it a bit too quiet and contemplative - this isn't interactive or playful - but teenagers interested in art will probably find it less intimidating than the bigger institutions.
