Fullingpits Wood

Ancient woodland south of Aylesford, Fullingpits Wood is one of those quiet corners of Kent that doesn't bang on about itself. You're walking through proper old-growth forest here - oak and beech mostly - with a real sense of history underneath your feet. The wood's been here for centuries, and it shows in the way the trees have established themselves and the paths have worn deep into the earth.

It's the kind of place that suits walkers far more than families after a day out. There's no playground, no cafe, no interpretation boards telling you what you're looking at. Just woodland. Locals use it regularly enough, and you'll spot evidence of proper woodland management, but you won't find crowds. An hour's ramble is easily doable, though you could stretch it to two if you're not in a rush.

Getting here from Aylesford is straightforward enough, and it pairs well with a base at River View Camping or Glamping @ Rankins Farm nearby. If you're already staying at The Hop Farm for the weekend, this is a decent morning walk that breaks up the drive or the holiday routine. Free access, open whenever - it's genuine public woodland, not a visitor attraction with gates and opening times.

Worth the detour? Only if you actually like forests. If you need facilities or activities, look elsewhere. But if you want to walk somewhere old and quiet without hearing other people's conversations, this does the job.
