Fuji Seen Through a Bamboo Thicket by Katsushika Hokusai

You'll find this rather unexpected sight on a bollard in Winchester city centre - a reproduction of Hokusai's iconic woodblock print showing Mount Fuji framed through dense bamboo. It's part of the town's public art scheme, so there's no gallery to visit, no admission fee, and no opening hours to fret about. Just walk past and you'll spot it.

The print itself is hypnotic. Hokusai was obsessed with depicting Fuji from different angles and distances, and this version is one of his cleverest - the mountain barely visible through the thicket, almost incidental to the foreground. On a bollard in the heart of Hampshire, it feels rather surreal in the best way.

Won't take long to appreciate - a minute or two of stopped walking - but it rewards a closer look. History buffs and art types will get the most from it; kids might need a quick explanation of why a Japanese mountain is suddenly on the street. It's not a destination in itself, but if you're staying at one of the local caravan sites like Holden Farm or Hookpit Farm and exploring Winchester's centre on foot, you'll stumble across it. The town's got enough to keep you occupied for a morning without this being the reason to visit. More of a lovely bonus than a pilgrimage. Fair warning though - if you're after a proper gallery experience with walls and climate control, keep walking.
