Frog Hill

Frog Hill is a proper woodland walk just outside Preston, the sort of place locals know about but tourists rarely stumble upon. The forest floor is thick with moss and fallen branches, especially after rain, and the paths wind through dense Lancashire woodland that feels genuinely remote despite being minutes from the town.

It's straightforward walking rather than spectacular views, which means it works best for people after a decent leg-stretch without the crowds you'd get at proper tourist hotspots. Families with kids aged six and up will manage the terrain fine, though younger ones might find it a bit samey after thirty minutes. There's no visitor infrastructure that I'm aware of, so bring water and wear proper boots.

What makes it worth the trip is the absolute quiet. No gift shops, no themed attractions, just woodland and the occasional bird. You could knock out a decent two-hour walk here and be back at your caravan in time for lunch. The nearby campsites - Smithills View, Brylea, and Donkey Creek Farm are all within easy striking distance - make it a sensible leg of a broader Lancashire holiday.

Go early on weekdays if you can. Weekends bring the local dog walkers out in force, which changes the mood a bit. There's no fee that I could trace, and it's completely free parking if you can find a safe spot near the entrance. Honestly, it's not going to be the highlight of your trip, but it's exactly the sort of place that breaks up a caravan holiday nicely.
