Frith Wood

A proper woodland walk, this one. Frith Wood sits just outside Ashford and delivers exactly what you'd expect from a Kent forest - mature trees, winding paths, and the kind of green that makes you remember why you bothered leaving the car. The wood itself isn't vast, but it's well-maintained and peaceful, which counts for plenty when you're after a break from the endless flat fields of the surrounding countryside.

You're looking at a solid hour or so if you take it slowly, maybe ninety minutes if you're the type to pause and identify every bird call. The paths are mostly manageable underfoot, though it gets muddy after rain - proper muddy, not just slightly damp. Worth bringing decent boots. The wood works brilliantly as a morning walk before heading into Ashford proper, or as a spot to burn off some energy when glamping in the area gets a bit much. Which, given there are five decent glamping and camping options within a few miles - Go Glamp and Wildside Camping and Glamping are the nearest - you might well be doing.

There's nothing flashy about Frith Wood. No visitor centre, no themed trails, no café selling overpriced coffee. It's just a place to walk among trees and breathe properly for a bit. The canopy's dense enough to feel properly sheltered even when the weather's turning. If you're expecting a dramatic destination, you'll be disappointed. But if you want somewhere genuine to stretch your legs while staying local to Ashford, it does the job.
