The cliffs provide a decent walk if you're feeling energetic - the views back along the coast are worth the effort, though don't expect solitude on a bank holiday weekend.

Historically minded visitors might appreciate that these cliffs are part of the Needles complex, and the bay's been a working part of the island's story for centuries. It's not a museum piece, though - it's a working beach that feels lived-in and real.

The nearest town, Freshwater itself, is just over a mile inland and has the usual provisions. For camping, you're spoilt - Glamping The Wight Way, Heathfield Farm, and The Bay Colwell are all within easy driving distance, with Tapnell Farm just 1.8 miles away if you prefer a bigger operation. It slots naturally into a wider Isle of Wight trip rather than being a destination in itself, but that's precisely its charm. Go on a quieter weekday morning if you can.
