About Foxlow Edge
The walk itself is straightforward. You'll gain maybe 200 metres or so, and from the top the views across the Peak District open up in all directions. On a clear day you can see well beyond Buxton. The moorland around it has that raw, windswept charm - brown and purple grasses, sparse vegetation, the occasional stone outcrop. It's the sort of place that feels proper wild even though you're never far from civilisation.
This is walker territory, first and foremost. Families with young kids might find it bit of a slog for limited payoff, but anyone who likes a decent ramble without needing crampons will get something from it. The approach from Buxton is relatively uncomplicated, making it a sensible half-day outing if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Eastwood End or Peak Glamping Hideaway are within five miles.
Timing-wise, you're looking at maybe two hours round trip depending on your pace and how long you linger at the summit. Autumn and spring are lovely, though winter can be grim and exposed. Summer crowds are lighter than at more famous peaks. It won't be the most memorable walk you do, but it's worth doing if you're in the area.
