Foxcote Reservoir sits just outside Buckingham, a working supply reservoir that's opened up for public access - no theme park nonsense, just a decent stretch of water where you can actually breathe. It's managed by Anglian Water, which means the facilities are maintained without fuss.

You'll walk round the perimeter if you're after exercise, or settle on the bank with binoculars if birds are your thing. The reservoir attracts waterfowl year-round, so it's genuinely worth visiting in winter when the regular lakes get crowded elsewhere. The water level fluctuates depending on rainfall, which sounds dull but actually changes the whole character of the place - sometimes you get muddy margins, sometimes grassy banks.

Walkers get a solid hour or two here depending on pace. Kids under ten might find it a bit thin on entertainment unless they're keen on spotting ducks. It's free to access, which is refreshing.
