Foxborough Wood

The woodland floor at Foxborough crunches underfoot as you push deeper into Kent's quiet corner near Sevenoaks. This isn't some manicured forest attraction with visitor centres and gift shops - it's proper woodland, the sort where you might actually spot a deer or hear woodpeckers rather than just read about them on an information board.

The main appeal here is straightforward: a decent walk through native woodland without the crowds you'd find at bigger, more famous spots. The paths are navigable enough for families with older kids, though it can get muddy after rain and there's nothing paved or specially maintained. Allow an hour or two depending on how far you venture. Spring's best if you want to catch bluebells and bird activity, though it's decent year-round.

This works nicely as a morning stop if you're based at one of the nearby parks - Thriftwood Country Park or Badgells Wood Camping are both within a few miles and give you a proper woodland walk without needing to travel far. It's the sort of place walkers and nature types will genuinely enjoy; younger children might lose interest faster unless they're into spotting wildlife and tree identification.

Foxborough won't set your heart racing or give you Instagram moments, but that's rather the point. It's real woodland doing what woodland does, and sometimes that's exactly what you want.
