About Foel y Bwlch
This is moorland walking territory. The summit itself is fairly bare, exposed to whatever weather's brewing, but on a clear day you get decent sight lines across to the Brecon Beacons and over towards Newtown. Allow three hours round trip from the nearest carpark if you're a reasonably fit walker. The terrain's boggy in places after rain, so proper boots aren't optional.
It's the kind of walk that appeals to serious hikers and anyone wanting a proper afternoon's graft without needing to head further afield. Kids will manage it, but they need to be the type who actually enjoy walking rather than just tolerating it for Instagram photos. The views don't change as you climb - it's gradual and steady - so younger legs might find it dull.
Stay at Pandy Camping just 3.6 miles away and you've got immediate access to some of the better walking in the area. Riverbend Caravan Park is also close by. Both are solid bases for exploring the Welshpool area without needing to trek an hour to reach the hills. There's no visitor centre or facilities at the peak itself, so take water and check the forecast before heading out.
