The slides at Flume Lagoon shoot you down at speed before dumping you into warm pools - it's the sort of place that makes a proper summer day if the weather cooperates. Located just outside Dumfries, this leisure park is genuinely straightforward: several flumes of varying intensity, a lagoon for splashing about, and enough space that you're not constantly bumping into other families.

Kids absolutely thrive here, particularly the five-to-fourteen crew who can work up the courage to tackle the bigger slides. Toddlers have their own quieter areas, though honestly they'll spend most of the time imitating their older siblings rather than actually enjoying their designated bits. Adults who've lost the will to slide can at least float about in the lagoon without feeling entirely foolish.

It's free to get in, which is a genuine bonus - admission covers access to the water areas, though you'll want to pack a picnic or budget for overpriced pool-side food. Allow a full day if you're making it a proper outing; three hours feels rushed. Summer holidays are mental busy; May or early September work far better. Weekday visits in term time are blissfully quiet.
