Flag Fen Archaeology Park

Flag Fen sits just outside Peterborough and does something properly unusual - it lets you walk through an actual Bronze Age settlement that's been painstakingly reconstructed. The site centers on a timber platform built around 1300 BC, discovered preserved in peat, and the team has created a working landscape of roundhouses and workshops that shows how people actually lived back then rather than just telling you about it in a museum.

You can wander between the reconstructed buildings, handle replica tools, and watch demonstrations of ancient crafts. It's hands-on in the best way - the sort of place where kids stop moaning about their phones because they're genuinely absorbed. Adults will find the archaeology genuinely interesting too, especially if you're the type who gets excited about how everyday Bronze Age life actually functioned. The museum building itself has the finds from the excavations, which adds proper context to what you're seeing outside.
