Fisherman’s Lookout

The stone tower standing on Devon's cliffs near Kingsbridge isn't exactly screaming for attention, but that's rather the point. Fisherman's Lookout is one of those proper local spots that tourists tend to miss, which means you'll have the views largely to yourself. It's a small historic structure - built to keep watch over the fishing fleet and the waters below - and the real draw here is the vantage point rather than the building itself. On a clear day the sweep of the coastline is genuinely impressive.

Walkers will find this worth the detour. The surrounding paths are decent, and you can combine it with a proper exploration of the South Devon coast. It's not a destination that'll consume your day - you're looking at maybe thirty to forty minutes unless you settle in with binoculars - but it's the sort of place that breaks up a longer walk nicely. Families with older kids won't struggle with access, though it's not the sort of attraction that'll hold a five-year-old's attention for long.

Free to visit, as far as the structure goes. The camping and glamping options nearby - South Devon Camping at Lower Terawhiti Farm is two and a half miles away and rates exceptionally well, while Hidden Hill's luxury glamping with hot tubs sits about five miles out - make decent bases for exploring this stretch of coast. Karrageen Caravan Park is similarly close. Come when the weather's decent; this is a viewpoint, after all, and rain tends to rather ruin the exercise.
