The channel runs through countryside that feels properly removed from the city, with decent paths running alongside where you can actually see something other than car parks and ring roads. Birdwatchers do well here - herons, cormorants, and ducks are regular sightings. It's not dramatic, but it's genuinely peaceful in a way that costs nothing.

Family groups with younger kids might find an hour or so here pleasant enough, especially if they're the type who'll chase ducks and poke about looking for fish.
