Field Grass

The poetry path at Field Grass is a proper breath of fresh air if you're staying in a caravan near Dunkeld and fancy something a bit different from the usual countryside walks. Rather than a conventional gallery, this is an outdoor trail where contemporary poetry installations are scattered across the landscape - you read as you ramble, essentially. Some pieces work brilliantly; others feel a touch pretentious depending on your mood and the weather.

It's genuinely worth the detour if you're into words and walking in equal measure. Literature types will spend a good hour or more working through the installations and actually reading them properly rather than just photographing. Families with older kids who don't mind a philosophical bend will find it engaging, though younger children might lose interest without prompting. The setting itself is lovely - proper Perthshire scenery - so even if the poetry doesn't grab you, the walk does.

The whole thing is free, which is refreshing. Allow between 45 minutes and two hours depending on how much you linger at each piece and whether you're the type who reads every word twice. Early autumn is probably best - the path can get muddy in winter, and summer midges are no joke in this part of Scotland.

If you're based at Inver Mill Farm Caravan Park or Erigmore Holiday Park, it's close enough for a morning trip without eating into your day. Pair it with a wander around Dunkeld itself - the Cathedral ruins are genuinely worth seeing - and you've got a solid half-day sorted.
