Fens Falconry

You're standing in a field near Wisbech watching a Harris hawk dive from a handler's glove, and suddenly you understand why falconry's been around for centuries. Fens Falconry is a working facility where you can see birds of prey up close - proper flying demonstrations, not just birds in cages looking miserable.

The setup is straightforward. You get to watch experienced handlers work with everything from barn owls to golden eagles, and they actually explain what's happening rather than just letting the birds loose and hoping for the best. The falconers are clearly people who care about their birds, which makes the whole thing feel less like a zoo and more like being let into someone's genuinely fascinating world.

It's brilliant for kids old enough to stand still for twenty minutes - toddlers will get bored quick. History types and anyone serious about birds of prey will absolutely eat this up. Bring binoculars if you've got them.

If you're staying at one of the nearby glamping spots - Glamping with Llamas is barely four miles away, or Parklands Holidays just up the road - this makes for a solid half-day outing between park activities. The Fenland landscape around here is dead flat and proper East Anglian, so mixing a morning at the falconry with an afternoon walk round your holiday park works well.
