The combination of vineyard and brewery under one roof near Braintree is rare enough in Essex to warrant a detour, and Felstar actually pulls it off without feeling gimmicky. You're looking at a proper working operation here - they grow their own grapes on-site and ferment their own beer in the same facility, which means the whole thing has real substance rather than just being a tourist trap with a gift shop.

What you actually do depends on your mood. There's the vineyard side if you want to understand how English wine gets made (spoiler: it's nothing like the syrupy stuff your mum keeps in the kitchen). The brewery is where the real action happens for most visitors - you can usually grab a pint of their own ale while you're there, and the quality is consistently good. Tours exist but you'll need to ring ahead to check what's running; they're not always available.

Walking groups will appreciate the location, and if you're staying at Stocks Farm Camping or Golden Grove Caravan Park nearby, it's an easy drive for an afternoon that won't feel forced.
