Farr Church

The tiny kirk sits alone on the edge of Strathdearn, a few miles south of Inverness, and it's the sort of place that makes you slow down without meaning to. Farr Church is modest - whitewashed walls, a simple bell tower, absolutely no fuss - but it's been standing since the 17th century and there's something properly moving about that continuity. You walk in and it's just peaceful. Low wooden pews, stone flags, light coming through small windows. The churchyard tells stories if you bother to read the headstones, which frankly most visitors don't because they're passing through on the A9 without realising what's here. It takes maybe thirty minutes to have a good look round, longer if you're the type who sits quietly and absorbs atmosphere. There's no visitor centre, no gift shop, no admission charge - just a working church that welcomes people in. Families with restless kids might find it a bit thin on entertainment, but walkers heading into the Highlands or anyone after a moment of real silence will appreciate it. It pairs well with a stay at Go Glamping at Loch Ness, which is just down the road - the contrast between that and this quiet kirkyard is actually rather nice. Park the car, step inside, remember that some places don't need to shout to be worth your time.
