The Museum & Art Gallery splits itself nicely between two floors of solid Highland heritage and rotating contemporary work. Downstairs you'll find the sort of stuff that makes sense if you're trying to understand what makes this corner of Scotland tick: Jacobite relics, taxidermy that's seen better days, and a decent collection of local artifacts that tell you more about Inverness than any tour guide could manage in an afternoon.

The art gallery upstairs changes regularly, which means repeat visits aren't pointless - there's usually something different on rotation. It's not massive, and most visitors will work through both floors in a couple of hours comfortably. Families with younger kids sometimes find the Victorian cases a bit dull, but anyone genuinely interested in Highland history or Scottish art will find it worth a proper look.
